Heavy metal receiving tray for receiving calling cards. The piece is silver plated and is still heavy with silver and shines very well. The tray edges are folded with wave edges. There are initials engraved at one end J & LS. It was probably a wedding gift for a couple. The handle undulates to the top where there is a silver ball finial. The tray has little ball feet. The piece was made in England and the design of the tray is going away from the heavy ornate Victorian silver plate. The English hallmarks for the Dixon & Son’s electroplate are stamped on the underside of the tray, along with the number 4861 H and M. The trumpet figural trademark was used by these popular silversmiths during the 1880-1890s. MEASUREMENTS 4” (10.2 cm) tall x 6” (15.2 cm) long x 5 ¼” (13.3 cm) wide.
