Description
A Very Rare and Important Bakongo Paternity figure shown kneeling and presenting a dead infant. Idol's such as this were kept on shrines and only brought out to recieve offerings at the death of an infant To feed the Spirit of the deceased. The sculpture measures 13.75 inches ( 15 inches tall on custom display stand). Provenance: Ex Sol and Josephine Levitt collection, New York, *Museum Exhibited in 2002, Hillwood Art Museum, NY . ***Published in the book "Perpetuating the Culture: African Images of Mother and Child", 2002 (see attached photos)
