This is a very interesting old wooden effigy of a Male ancestor holding an offering bowl. This sculpture likely represents a Hogon or village medicine man / Priest.The Dogon peoples depend spiritually upon the Hogon for guidance and wisdom as they communicate with the spirit world. Note the highly stylized face and form, the twisted legs and wonderfully exaggerated features.A uncommon vintage find from the Dogon peoples, Mali, West Africa.Measures 14 inches tall ( 16 inches tall on professional custom display stand.
