Description
A signed and dated Estelle Goodman (1930-2007, American) nude bronze figure with a long flowing cape behind them. The figure has an elongated and outstretched body with a hand raised in the air and one at the chest. With close cropped hair and a smiling expression, this bronze has captured a moment in time. Signed and dated, Estelle Goodman 1963. The bronze is in very good condition with age appropriate wear. The wood base has a black laminate all over, also with black tape on the surface of the base. The base measures approximately 10.25 in wide by 6.75 in deep by .75 in high. The overall height is approximately 25.5 in high and the width is approximately 7.75 in and the depth is approximately 5.25 in. The piece is signed and dated in the cast Estelle Goodman 1963. ARTIST BIO: Estelle Goodman (1930-2007, American) was a modernist expressionist painter and sculptor during the mid 20th Century in New York. Ms. Goodman resided at the fabled Majestic on Central Park West at 72nd Street in Manhattan and had an art studio in her apartment. This work is from the Collection of Estelle Goodman. A collection that has only now been rediscovered. Her artist studio home had been vacant and under lock and key since 2007. The works in this fresh to the market trove of modernist, expressionist, abstract and mid century paintings and sculpture are on the market for the first time in decades. Ms. Goodman studied at and graduated from Barnard College. As a woman artist, Ms. Goodman often explored concepts of the human figure in both sculpture and painting. Ms. Goodman was known to have cast at the Modern Art Foundry in Astoria, Queens, New York. This was an important American foundry that cast works from many of the leading sculptors working in the mid century period, including Miro, Archipenko, Noguchi, Lachaise and Lipchitz. She was a member of various arts institutions including the Artist-Craftsmen of New York, the New Jersey Society of Painters and Sculptors, the Yonkers Art Association, the Knickerbocker Artists and League of Present Day Artists. Ms. Goodman’s exhibitions included the Knickerbocker Artists, 1961-64; the Allied Artists of America, 1963-65; the Audubon Artists, 1965; the National Design Center, New York, 1966; the W & J Sloane Co. Galleries, 1967.
