Description
Manufacturer: Kent Art Ware / Morimura / Noritake
Location of Manufacture: Japan
Period of Manufacture: 1930's
Dimensions: 10"(h) x 5"(w) x 5 1/2"(d)
Weight: 2 lbs. 4 oz.
For your consideration is a gorgeous Art deco period porcelain bust by Kent Art Ware. This piece closely resembles a porcelain bust by Goldscheider and was manufactured during the same period as a more affordable version. The underside of the bust is marked "Kent Art Ware / Japan".
Kent Art Ware was made exclusively for export to the United States during the 1930's. It is believed that a U.S.-based retailer contacted the New York City offices of the Morimura Brothers ceramics factory (later known as Noritake) and requested a line of stylish, yet inexpensive, Art Deco figures. The retailer wanted a less expensive alternative to the very popular wares being put out at the time by Goldscheider, Rosenthal and Hutschenreuther. The product line that was developed was called "Kent Art Ware".
