Dale Chihuly (American, b. 1941). Three Piece Seaform Set. Glass. Signed and dated Chihuly 92 on the underside of the smallest form. Measures 4.25 in. high x 8.5 in. wide x 5 in. deep; 2.25 in. high x 5 in. wide x 2.75 in. deep; 1 in. high x 3.5 in. wide x 3.5 in. deep. Provenance: Cone Solown Gallery, 1992.Condition: In very good condition. Some light surface soiling and very minor possible abrasions.Born in Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly is considered the most famous American glass artist of the late 20th Century. He studied and later taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and worked at a glass factory in Venice. He is known for creating organic-looking vessels that resemble huge clam shells, as in this example, or flower petals. He is able to create movement, capturing the shape of the molten flow of the medium. His work is included in over 200 museum collections around the world and he is one of only three American artists to have had a solo exhibition at the Louvre.
