Ancient Asia Minor, Western Anatolia, Troy, Yortan culture, ca. 2700 to 2300 BCE. A fine wheel-thrown vessel with a lightly-rounded but stable base, a spherical body with a carinated midsection, a sloping shoulder, a squat neck with a tall beak-form pouring spout, and an applied handle arching between neck and midsection. A trio of raised crescent-shaped forms with hanging central rods grace the sides of the vessel, and a small raised nodule is presented above the central embellishment. Most of the exterior surface is decorated with a lustrous jet-black glaze which imbues the vessel with an elegant presentation. Size: 5.75" W x 7.9" H (14.6 cm x 20.1 cm).
Provenance: The Dere Family Collection, New York, USA, assembled 1970s-2000s; ex-George Zakos Collection, Switzerland, acquired in 1980s

Condition
Repaired from multiple large pieces, with light restoration around areas of neck and pouring spout, and resurfacing and overpainting over new material and break lines. Minor abrasions to body, base, handle, spout, and areas of glaze, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
