Northern Australia, Bathurst Island, Aboriginal peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A group of three hand-carved wooden tools, each resembling an abstract zoomorphic creature. The smallest carving resembles a seal with a bulbous body and dozens of carved spots. The middle sculpture resembles a crocodile with a thick tail, a petite head, and an ovoid body covered in carved "scales." The largest carving emulates a sting ray with an enormous tail, an ovoid body, and densely painted motifs on both the top and bottom. Size: 15.5" L x 5.8" W (39.4 cm x 14.7 cm).

All items have small nicks and abrasions to top and bottom, and light fading to pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
