Description
A very rare old carved wooden helmet mask with janus mask faces and two protruding spirit faces from the forehead. The mask is completely covered in animal skin, stretched tightly over the mask form and painted with esoteric symbols. This mask strongly resembles masks from the cross river and the widekun and Ekoi peoples, but is in fact from the Bangwa peoples of Cameroon, West Africa. The mask measures 16 x 11 inches. A durable metal display stand can also be included for an additional $40.00. Provenance: Ex Sid Berman collection from the early 1970's , Ex Amyas Naegele Gallery, New York City ( with gallery document ).
