Description
1871 Mark Twain's Burlesque Autobiography and First Romance, First Edition
Autobiography and First Romance by Mark Twain is another nonsensical spoof from one of Americas best 19th Century authors.
Sprinkled with absurd names, alias and deeds the family tree soon fills with shadowy and undesirable sorts of people of all shapes and sizes. In the second section, Twain tells the story of a ludicrously fabricated power struggle in a European Duchy. The intrigue gradually builds to an abrupt and surprising climax
First run as short stories for his newspaper print and was a huge success as short stories. Once put into print Twain knew he had made a mistake. The book was not the type of stories he wanted to be known for or the lifestyle he wanted to be presented as living. He saw it as a mistake for his career path. The book told stories far from what he wanted to be remembered or looked upon for. Two years after publication, he bought all the printing plates of the book and all prints he could find and destroyed them.
This first issue edition is bound in the original publisher's cloth and is illustrated throughout.
