Description
16 mm pistol camera with a fixed DOL 20 mm f/3.5 lens, mounted on an integral pistol stock with facility for magnesium flash pellets. The Doryu pistol cameras were apparently developed for police and surveillance tasks. The first model, the Doryu 1, took 9,5 mm film and was ready in 1952. The absence of film stock caused a rethinking and the design of a successor, the Doryu 2-16, which took 16 mm film and was completed in July 1954. By this time police forces had already selected the Mamiya Pistol Camera, designed to the same specifications and supplied already by May 1954. Therefore the Doryu was made available to the civilian market. The Doryu-16 pistol camera was first mentioned in Japanese camera magazines as early as July 1954 and the camera was advertised in Sankei Camera from July 1955. Later advertisements show it available with three different Dorymar lenses.
Included: Original leather case and copy of the instructions.
Literature: Michael Pritchard and Douglas St. Denny, „Spy Camera“, p. 146, 147 (illustrates the camera with serial number 10542).
Serial Number: 10541
