Fabulous bowl by the master potters Otto and Gertrude Natzler.
The Natzlers met in Vienna in 1933, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1938. They worked as a husband and wife team up until Gertrude's passing in 1971, with Gertrude throwing the pots and Otto doing the glazing. He is said to have developed over 2,000 glazes in his lifetime.
This bowl, like much of the Natler's work, is incredibly thinly potted. The way the pot sits perfectly on a tiny foot is also amazing. In all ways, the potting is extraordinary.
The beautiful volcanic glaze is in an aqua shade. The variation in thickness and the pooling of the glaze gives the bowl a wonderful organic quality. The rim is unglazed, and is buff in color.
Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
The bowl measures about 4 7/8" diameter at the rim by about 2 1/4" tall.
