Description
Probably Baule or Guro, a figure with three-ridge coiffure and with what appears to be a bowl or vessel on her head, the face with arched eyebrows, long narrow nose, pouting lips, "c" shaped ears, incised cheek scarification, the long neck with relief carved scarification and necklace or collar. The shoulders with notched edges and the name "ANDRE" carved into front. On custom gallery base. Pulley, approx. 10 1/2" H. x 2 1/2" W. x 2 1/4" D. (Measurements do not include base.)Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2020.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
