Description
WWII Group from Col. Frederick C. Feil of the 9th Infantry Division in WWII. He enlisted from Pennsylvania. as an Army reserve 2nd Lt. in 1931 after earning his BS degree from Pennsylvania Military College in 1930. Feil rose to Lt. Col. in May 1943, and fought with the 9th Inf. Division through all 8 of its WW2 campaigns. His Silver Star citation describes his heroic leading of the 1st Battalion, 47 Infantry Regiment ashore at Safi, Morocco on 8 November 1942. We haven't located his Soldier's Medal citation, but was told he won it during a 1946 barracks fire & explosion in occupied Germany. Col. Feil served as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3, 9th Division from April 1944 to May 1945. Feil received the French and Belgian Croix de Guerre during WWII as well. After WWII he served in the Korean War attached to KMAG. The group includes the following-50's portrait photo of him. -End of WWII theater made sew on ribbon bars (Does not include his Silver Star as he was awarded it in Oct. 1946 for a Nov. 1942 action. -Custom altered 9th ID patch with white borders added. -Period copy of his service record. -Sew on Colonel's rank.
