Historic Set of 1950Õs NS Meyer Flat ribbons from USMC Staff Sergeant Daniel M. Murphy of Pittsburgh, PA who earned a NAVY CROSS in 1950 during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. He was one of eight brothers who served in the military during WWII and Korea, and an excerpt about him from the attached article is below: Daniel M. Murphy was a U.S. Marine who served during both World War II and the Korean War. He earned a Navy Cross for bravery during the battle of Chosin Reservoir in November and December 1950. As a result of his heroism, he was inducted into the Hall of Valor at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in PittsburghÕs Oakland neighborhood. Daniel Murphy looked like a marine, Joseph Murphy said. His duties included being a member of the honor guard for President Harry Truman. His photo is featured on a 1941 Marine Corps recruiting poster. One of the Murphy familyÕs treasured keepsakes is a copy of the poster that shows colorguard Daniel Murphy carrying the Marine Corps Flag. The ribbons all came together, exhibit equal soiling, and reflect his awards perfectly. We found a photo in the article of him wearing the same setup minus the BSM and foreign ribbons.
