Description
**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A pair of mold-formed faience amulets covered in blue and blue-green glaze depicting Nefertum, the son of Ptah and god of perfumes and unguents. Each figure stands in a striding pose atop an integral rectangular plinth, wears a short skirt, presents with a lotus flower crown atop the head, and has a perforated suspension hole behind the neck. The name 'Nefertum' literally translates to "one who does not close," indicative of the ever-blooming lotus flower and the sweet scent it emits. Each figure has a faded column of hieroglyphs inscribed along the dorsal pillar. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 0.5" W x 1.9" H (1.3 cm x 4.8 cm)
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Dr. Sid Port collection, California, USA, acquired in 1980
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
