Description
**First Time At Auction**
Near East, Holy Land, Iron Age, ca. 8th to 5th century BCE. Two redware terracotta vessels that are complimentary in their differing forms. The larger bowl sits on a flat discoid foot and flares outward to a wide rim with a gently sloping interior cavity. Under the beige earthen patina is a burnt umber color with lighter orange areas. The other bowl has many incised rings on the bottom that lead to a pointed rounded base. The sides swell outwards to a shoulder with two flanking loop handles that attach to the slightly protruding rim. This vessel displays lovely red hues and deeper toned areas from the firing process. Two fine examples of Holy Land pottery with wonderful earthen encrustations. Size of bowl w/ handles: 7.75" W x 3.5" H (19.7 cm x 8.9 cm)
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection acquired before 2000

Condition
Surface wear, nicks, abrasions, and heavy earthen encrustations on both commensurate with age and use. Bowl with handles is repaired with one piece reattached to body and visible restoration along break line that radiates from base to rim.
