Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A fine leather tinder pouch with a folding flap adorned with a circular greenstone fragment, a steel striking blade, and a storage pouch on the interior that would have held a piece of flint. The pouch is surmounted by a slender brass suspension loop and has a pair of leather straps looped around it. The tinder pouch (also called a firestarter pouch or a "chuckmuck") is a portable fire-lighting kit that was hung from a belt when not in use. They can also be worn as ceremonial jewelry among ethnic Tibetans. Size (w/o leather straps): 4.2" W x 2.875" H (10.7 cm x 7.3 cm).

Minor abrasions and desiccation to leather components commensurate with age, with abrasions to steel and brass components, nicks to leather pouch on interior, and softening to some finer details. Light earthen deposits and nice patina throughout.
