**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A haunting kneeling figure, hand modeled from pottery and painted with red details on the buff pale brown ground. The figure, made to be placed inside a shaft tomb, wears large earrings and an interesting headdress; their expressive face includes applied eyes and a large nose above a mouth that appears to our modern eyes to be smiling - but its true meaning is lost to time. Size: 3.85" W x 6" H (9.8 cm x 15.2 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

Intact, with great deposits on surface and nice root marks. Light wear on surface commensurate with age. The red pigment is in good condition.
