Description

A CHARLES X STYLE GILT LACQUERED METAL PORTICO CLOCK, LATE 19TH CENTURY, the stepped rectangular entablature with a palmette molded cornice over a frieze of applied paterae, on four Doric fluted columns flanking a circular drum case with a conforming bezel of continuous pressed laurel leaves, centering a white enamel ring dial with black Roman hour chapters and Arabic quarter-hour numerals enclosing Breguet style blued steel hands over twin key escapements, raised on a conforming base centering a gilt copper paterae and blossoming stems mount over a leaf-tip trimmed plinth with scrolling tendril feet, verso pierced hinged door opening to brass clockwork cover plate stamped with oval "A.1 /4560 / MADE IN FRANCE," suspending a grill rods pendulum flanked by curling tipped acanthus arms and ending on a swirling leafy paterae disc bob numbered "4560." Height: 16" Width: 8 1/4" Depth: 5 1/8" Provenance: Lifelong Collection of Clocks and Antiques, Navasota, Texas.

Condition

Good condition with oxidized spots scattered throughout, top left back corner is slightly bent, white enamel ring dial has hairlines, base pendant is worn to copper or is made to look as such and there are a few normal light scratches. The base metal is brass and it appears the brushed gold lacquer finish is probably of a more recent date. Simpson Galleries does not guarantee any timepiece or clockwork mechanism.
