Description

A GRAND ROCOCO REVIVAL PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL MANTLE CLOCK, RETAILED BY BRULFER, PARIS, MID 19TH CENTURY, the foliate reeded and rocaille detailed bronze bezel with domed glass, opening to a white enamel dial enclosing black Roman chapters and Arabic five-minute numerals, over an inscription "Brulfer" and reticulated metal hands above "A PARIS," flanked by twin key escapements, verso brass clockworks stamped with oval "A.C," over "699 / 4 6," set within a nicely cast pierced clock case of triangular form and surmounted by a seated putto above exuberant "C" scrolled rocaille and acanthus, suspending tapering floral pendants over the similarly modeled base centering a marine deity wearing a diadem of marsh foliage and blowing his conch shell trumpet while astride a menacing dolphin, flanked by split tailed Triton youths holding aloft a shell or fish and raised on a conforming asymmetrical plinth of equally dramatic swirling acanthine foliage on variously detailed serpentine rectangular feet, includes two winding keys. Height: 24 3/4" Width: 21" Depth: 10"

Condition

Good condition for clocks of this age and use including but not limited to top seated putto lacking his staff/trident and is loose, expected old marks, light scratches, and surface buildup throughout. Bronze case has dark greenish-brown patination except the figures which have a dark blackish red patina. The enamel dial has a very faint small hairline and some tiny wear around the key escapements.
