English Campaign Writing Box on Mahogany Stand

Item Details

Description

Circa 1850s. Rectangular case with brass lock, corners, banding and vacant cartouche, opening to a rose colored cut-velvet writing surface concealing storage for documents with a pencil scoop and additional compartments for an inkwell and other writing accessories. A wooden panel mounted with spring steel behind the forward compartments is released by the upward movement of a partition, revealing three concealed drawers. The desk is mounted on a custom-made base with tapered legs, transforming it into a perfect side table. Lovely wood grain and patina, top with veneer crack, missing one section of brass banding, box appears all original lacking only the inkwell. overall H25 5/8" W20 1/2" D10 3/4"
