SANTA CLARA BLACK ON BLACK POT by RAMONA TAPIA (d.2002), ca. 1950s Condition: Excellent Mark: "Ramona Tapia / Santa Clara" Description: Well-made pot with very good polished decoration. The elements are a ring of rising suns, above a ring of feathers, each with a mesa (stairstep) design. Hand-coiled red clay, with sand temper, and iron-rich clay slip for polishing. Note: (1) Fourteen Families p 146 lists Virgil and Tony Tapia of the Chavarria families and Michelle Tapia of the Tafoya family, who are related to Ramona Tapia. She has work displayed in the Smithsonian. 5"d x 3.25"h.
