Description
The Pulver Chemical Co. of Rochester NY was the manufacturer of this Pulver Chocolate Cocoa and Gum vending machine with a patent date of 1899. Fortunately the company changed its name to The Pulver Chocolate and Chicle Co. in 1904, a much more appetizing name for a candy and gum company. These animated clockwork vending machines could come with several different internal characters, with this particular machine having one of the rarest, Buster Brown. It is amazing that any of these machines survive today given that most were mounted outside store fronts, and this example is a stand out to most that exist today. With tin lithograph panels on the front and both sides, advertising chocolate cocoa and gum and a great graphic of two children enjoying their tasty confection. An all original untouched version with signs of use present, but with bright color and shine. Buster Brown's original clothes are a bit tattered, but complete, and the machine works. Original paper label and with key. Reference: "Silent Salesman Too" by Bill Enes, page 158. Condition: (Excellent). Dimensions: 24" x 10 - 1/2" x 5 - 1/2".
