Large and unusual English sprigged stoneware punch bowl. This is a large bowl, measuring 10 1/2" diameter by 4 3/4" tall. The bowl has a tall foot, a raised white rim, and a wide band of sprigged hunting scenes against a blue/lavender background. The scene goes all the way around the bowl with horses, hunters and hounds. The sprigged designs have remains of silver luster, which originally must have highlighted much of the design. There are gilt initials on the front of the bowl, which are somewhat worn. The condition is very good, no chips or cracks, just some glaze nicks to the rim and foot, small kiln stones (in the making) on the inside and a couple of dark lines (also in the making) which are not cracks. The piece rings like a bell when tapped. Quite an unusual piece. PST 090B
