Sylvia Hyman (Nashville, Tennessee, born 1917) ceramic sculpture, wedge shape with metallic-glazed rim. Signed on base "Sylvia Hyman 1985". Condition: 4.5" hairline crack wide end of wedge, small cracks at pointed end, and in dark "ribbon" section of sculpture. 19" x 8" x 4 1/8". Provenance: collection of Christine and Clarence Holt, Nashville. Biography: Sylvia Hyman is known for her imaginative ceramic sculptures which often appear to be made of materials other than clay. Her work was featured in a 2007 exhibit at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and she was the subject of the 2007 film "Sylvia Hyman: Eternal Wonder" at the Nashville Film Festival.
