A carved wooden Monkey with hands held in a sign of offering. Traditionally known as "Gbekre" they were placed on shrines hidden from the view of others and considered powerful mediums to the spirit world. Baule peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. The Monkey measures 27.5 inches tall. Provenance: A private Oregon collection.
