Description
Leica 72 18x24 Midland, Ontario Half-Frame Nr. 357396 with 50mm Elmar f3,5 Red Scale. Made in Midland, Ontario in 1949, as part of the final batch of Leica 72 production. Designed for filmstrip and archival work, the half-frame Leica 72 enables the user to get 72 images from a roll of 36-exposure film. Less than 200 cameras were made between 1950 and 1963, making it one of the rarest production screw mount Leica cameras.Based on the tried-and-true Leica IIIa, production of the Leica 72 began in Wetzlar, Germany, where 33 copies were made, and in the early 1950s production moved to Midland, where 150 cameras were produced. This camera was made toward the end of that run.Interestingly, this late-manufactured version of the 50mm Elmar lens bears no serial number. Both camera and lens are working well. With original shipping receipt. Condition: Excellent ++ From the Collection of Dr. C.F. Tatum
