Description
Dated 1873, a partially printed, partially handwritten Commission document with signature and stamp. The proclamation suspends by name the extant U.S. Consul to Hamilton, Ontario and commissions the recipient by name to that office and its responsibilities. Signature of U.S. Grant (1822-1885) to lower right, with additional signature of Secretary of State Hamilton Fish (1808–1893). Impressed white seal stamped to lower left. Presented in a decorative matte and wooden frame. Good to fair condition with age related wear. Measures 16 in. x 21 3/4 in. (sight), 23 1/4 in. x 29 1/4 in. (framed).
