Description
Ikkei Shosai (Japanese, active 1870s-1880s). An original antique 19th Century color woodblock print, depicting Ebisu (Yebisu), the Japanese god of fishermen and luck and one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. The work is "tipped" at the top corners to antique card stock with authentication note THIS IS ORIGINAL PRINT BY SHOSAI... and dated circa 1880. The artist, Shosai, was, according to tradition, a pupil of Utagawa Hiroshige I. Good to fair condition, some foxing spots to work and matte frame. Measures 14 in. x 9 in. (work), 17 3/4 in. x 13 in.
