Description
A solid vintage Chinese pewter lidded teapot, with encircling motifs of stylized pagodas and a central stylized bat at the spout. With two brass metal handles to either side of pewter lid, and impressed Chinese marks encircling top steam hole. Additional impressed marks to bottom. Rich patina throughout. The Chinese word for bat is "fu," and the Chinese word for happiness also is pronounced "fu." Chinese art has long used bats to represent the five blessings: health, long life, prosperity, love of virtue, and a tranquil, natural death. Often they encircle a stylized caligraph known as the prosperity symbol. Good overall condition with minor wear. Measures 5 in. x 8 1/2 in. x 6 in.
