George Nakashima (1905-1990) "Double Pedestal" Desk, New Hope, Pennsylvania, 1959American black walnut.H: 29, W: 60, D: 27 1/2 in. PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from the artistThence by descent to Private Collection, New York
Condition
Fair to estate condition. The top overall clean, with various ink stains, blemishes and heavy edge wear to free edge at front, but no large losses. The back edge of top with areas of white household paint transfer. Both pedestal cabinets with finished backs with some horizontal scuffs and areas of heavy white household paint transwer along lower back edge of backs. The proper right pedestal cabinet with breaks and splits to joints at back with separation between back and side panels. Useable as-is, but some professional conservation/repair may be required to stabilize. Top of this pedestal also with long split to center of top running front to back, through hole while accepts screw threading securing top to pedestal. No key present for top drawer lock. All drawers open freely. Drawer interiors stained.
