Description
This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas mounted to board, rendered in the modern style of Fauvist painter Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954). "Henri Matisse" is inscribed in black paint at lower right. Image depicts a sitting female; the entire composition is done in bright, vivid colors. A striking piece executed in the modernist style for which Matisse was so well known. Overall framed dimensions measure approximately 24.75" x 21" / Image sight measures approximately 19.5" x 15.5".
Reverse side of piece features two affixed labels and one stamp. The stamp appears to read, "PM". One paper label bears the name and information of a New York gallery called Hammer Galleries, which attributes the piece to Henri Matisse and offers the title "Nu Bleu". A second, larger label reads as follows:
"(1 27 - 5467)
'Nu Bleu'
Dessin d'Henri Matisse.
Paris, 11/10/82.
(Signed)
Wanda de Guebniant.
Oil on canvas.
Executed in 1952.

Henri Matisse (French, 1869 - 1954) was an artist known for both his fluid use of colour and his original draughtsmanship. He was an illustrator, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century.

Condition
Overall very good condition. Some bubbling where canvas has pulled away from the board. The image itself remains bright and clear. Please see photos for further reference.
