Description
The footed box finely enameled on carved relief, depicting mandarins carrying an important imperial figure, probably the empress dowager Cixi who ruled at that time (1861-1908) in a beautifully decorated sedan chair (jià ozi). There are bats and clouds also depicted. Around the edges of the box there is an imperial procession. It is lined with wood on the inside. The box is in good antique condition but showing some signs of age and use. Late Qing dynasty Chinese export, 19th to early 20th century. The box measures 12 cm long by 9 cm wide. Provenance: private Florida collection.
