Description
1859 1ed President George Washington Recollections & Memoirs Americana Custis
“It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one.”
– George Washington
A rare, 1st edition printing of G.W. Parke Custis’s edition of George Washington’s private memoirs. According to Larned,
“These reminiscences of Washington were written by Mrs. Washington’s grandson, who was adopted by George Washington at six months of age. The recollections were contributed for the most part to newspapers at various times for twenty years but are here collected for the first time. They form the storehouse for the usual traditions about Washington, accepted but largely unproven. To the recollections are added a memoir of the writer, the correspondence between Washington and himself, and that between Washington and the father of the writer.”
