Theodore Roosevelt ALS Written Shortly After The Death of His Wife, Ex-Nicholson Collection

Single page autograph letter signed on black bordered mourning stationary, 4.5" x 7". Dated "New York May 26th", and signed by Theodore Roosevelt as "Theodore Roosevelt". Accompanied by the original autographed mailing envelope post marked "May 28". Envelope is cased in a plastic sleeve, and is slightly grubby. The letter is near fine with a single horizontal fold. Ex-Nicholson Collection.

Written shortly after the death of his first wife, Alice, and his mother (both of whom died on the same day), Roosevelt writes to Horace Starkey, "The Legislature having adjourned I regret deeply that it is out of my power at present to send you the documents you wish; but I will try to get them to you as soon as the Clerk of the lower House returns".

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
