Typed letter, signed by Harding, as United States Senator from Ohio, to New York Supreme Court Justice Russell Benedict; on United States Senate stationery; creasing from original fold. Lot includes Benedict's Supreme Court mailing envelope.Only a few months before being elected twenty-ninth president, Warren G. Harding writes to New York Supreme Court Justice Russell Benedict, declining an invitation to a dinner celebration: "It is always a pleasure for me to meet 'one hundred percent Americans' who make up membership of the Mayflower Society, and I wish it were possible to accept, but it has been borne upon me that I must not make engagements beyond the termination of our campaign."
