Description
Charles Dickens Autograph Letter Signed "Charles Dickens." One page on a bifolium, 4.5" x 7.25", Household work office, May 23, 1857, to John Bruce. The author informs Bruce that he will sign an unknown document. The letter reads in full: "Sir. I beg to assure you that I shall be happy to add my name to a document so very reasonable in its object, and so very [illegible] if experienced as the proposed memorial to the master of the rolls. Faithfully yours, Charles Dickens." The letter is accompanied by a carte de visite of Dickens which bears a Poulton studio mark on the verso. Condition: The letter is faded with the outline of the CDV over the majority of the text and signature. Mounting remnants and pencil markings on the verso of the ALS and CDV.
