Sekino, Junichiro (Japanese 1914-1988), Portrait of Shiko Munakata, 1968, woodblock printed in colors, 26 1/8 x 20 7/8 inches, pencil signed, dated, and numbered 12/118, framed in a black wood frame measuring 39 x 34 inches, Sekino's prints are currently in the permanent collections of Ashmolean Museum of Oxford, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the British Museum, Cincinnati Art Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, the Portland Art Museum, and Royal Ontario Museum, among others. This portrait of the legendary printmaker Shiko Munakata is one of the most iconic woodblock prints of the 20th Century. Virtually every survey and catalogue of modern Japanese prints will include this image.
Condition
