Robert McKirdie, Spokane, Washington. "Catastrophic Failure". Metal, found objects, 2020. Robert McKirdie:As a sculptor I am constantly testing the idea of joinery and craftsmanship in relation to my source material. Through the investigations of the material I understand each piece I collect embodies its own parameters in connection to itself and another, which can appear as seamless or crude at times. While certain connections are not necessarily the most important aspect of my work they tend to represent the properties and possibilities within the overall composition of a particular piece. Upon completion my work seeks its own identity, which not only echoes the illuminating code of the past through the material but, too, expresses a new energy--ranging from the spiritual and sacred to the interactive process and playfulness.
