Description
Mary Pickford "Katherine" green velvet gown with beaded bodice from The Taming of the Shrew. (UA, 1929) Two-piece green velvet gown worn by Mary Pickford as "Katherine" during the final scene of the film and her speech on obedience. Gown consists of long full skirt with gold brocade pattern along the lower hem, silk lining and snap closure at the rear. Skirt bears internal United Costumers, Inc. label handwritten "Mary Pickford." Separate bodice with ornate faux pearl beading along the neckline and waist with tulle insets, hook-and-eye closure at the rear. Exhibits slight staining and tiny moth holes on the skirt, bodice is fragile exhibiting tears at the sleeves and right shoulder, some hooks and eyes missing, tattering of internal tulle lining.
