Almost square in format, this Berber kilim was woven in the town of Gafsa situated in Central Tunisia. Its design consists of seven wide horizontal stripes decorated with diverse ornamental bands. The particularly wide band at the centre is divided into six rectangular compartments whose designs include five human figures. Two white bands placed at the upper and lower ends depict camel trains moving in opposite directions. Woven in the single weft interlocking technique whereby slits are avoided, this kilim with a soft texture was used as a cover or curtain. – Good condition, original finishes all around.
