Description
First half 19th century, 271 x 167 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
An early main carpet woven by a Yomut tribal group. It displays three rows of eleven tauk nuska güls and chemche secondary güls drawn in surprisingly diverse colours. The main border shows a Turkmen wavy vine with curled leaves, and the red-ground secondary borders contain offset stepped polygons. Very beautifully drawn trees are aligned side by side in the pile-woven elems. – Obvious signs of age and wear, very low spots in the pile, a number of creases, slightly damaged edges.
LOGES, WERNER, Turkmenische Teppiche. Munich 1978, no. 37
