Description
CALVINO ITALO: (1923-1985) Italian Journalist and Writer. T.L.S., Italo Calvino, one page, 4to, Rome, 19th June 1959, to Howard Greenfeld of The Orion Press Inc. in New York, on the printed stationery of the Giulio Einaudi publishing house. Calvino writes in slightly broken English and states, in part, 'you are right in solicitating me. I am in debt with you of an answer for introduction and for translation. I've given a first glance to the translations, and they seems me generally good; I was waiting for a day of free time to write you a letter of particular observations, but I'm always so awfully busy!.......As a general observation, I should prefer a very dry way of translating, everywhere it is possible. For the introduction, I can write it again in an abridged edition. When does it need?' Some very slight, extremely minor creases to the corners and a couple of very small areas of paper loss to the edges, otherwise about VG The present letter would appear to relate to the publication of Calvino's Italian Fables, the First American edition of which was published by the Orion Press in 1959 having been translated by Louis Brigante.
