Description

Title: Outsider Howard Finster clock case

Provenance/Additional Info: This is a large and colorful clock case made by Howard Finster, with ink stampings of his name and address on the back. It has very good form, scalloped carving, impressed circles (from a little machine he made), and turned vertical supports in the front. It is in almost perfect condition. There is a small piece missing in the very top, which has been slightly reshaped. The top appliqued "flower" is painted red, green, and white, and around the center are diamonds highlighted in green paint. The print of the roses and the back cardboard are original. The case is 20 1/4" high, 18" wide, and 3 1/2" deep. The surface is a medium brown varnish. It was probably made about the 1960's, and overall, one of the nicer Finster cases around.
