Herman Miller (American). Large CSS Comprehensive Storage System wall unit designed circa 1960 by George Nelson (1908–1986), famous as the designer of the iconic Coconut Chair, Marshmallow Sofa, and Ball Clock. Walnut and aluminum, includes five upright light units (12 1/8 in. x 3 1/2 in.), six uprights (96 in. x 2 1/8 in.), 14 shelves, two with light units and one finished with white mica (32 in. x 12 in.), eight walnut dovetail drawers with varying heights (30 1/2 in. width x 18 in. depth), white Lucite student lamp (7 in. x 11 1/2 in.) on rotating armature (14 in. arm), and two spare extension points (6 in.). Various hardware. Good overall condition, light to moderate surface scratches, scuffs and abrasions consistent with age. Measures approximately 87 in. x 129 in. x 15 1/4 in. (assembled). Photos are an example of how this piece was displayed in the estate. The piece has since been dismantled with additional pieces having been located afterwards.
