Description
Mayan Stone Mortar w/ Seated Nobles & Glyphs (300-600 AD)
The detailed glyphs place this bowl in the Mayan Classical Period. Between the three sets of glyphs are three seated nobles, with early forms of speech scrolls, a visual literary device relating the glyph images to spoken words. Above the three seated lords is a feathered rim, and remnants of the original cinnabar remain in the bowl.
