Description:
Fawcett. December, 1946. VG/Fine (5.0). A solid, handsome mag with tiny chip to bottom right corners of front and back covers, a small chip at the top spine of the back cover, and a tiny closed tear to the right edge of the front cover. Despite these flaws, the book presents well. The top edge slopes somewhat – trimmed? The right edge of the textblock peaks at the centerfold, indicating that the right edge has not been trimmed. Off-white to cream pages. Cover penciled by C.C. Beck and inked by Pete Costanza? Stories and art by C.C. Beck, Pete Costanza, Otto Binder, Bill Woolfolk.
"Fawcett's Captain Marvel was such a smash that an entire Marvel Family was introduced. Mary Marvel was presented as Billy Batson's long-lost twin sister.... Unlike Billy Batson's transformation into Captain Marvel, Mary's left her a young girl. And she thereby avoided any narrow-eyed criticism in the hidden sex field.... If Fawcett hadn't been forced to give up the Marvel line, Mary Marvel would have received an instant seal of approval at the time of the Comics Code." – Jaunita Coulson, "Of (Super)human Bondage," The Comic Book Book.

R. Crumb says, "I found [PBA's catalogue] so interesting that I am saving it for the texts that accompany the comics which were put up for auction. This is some of the best commentary I've yet seen on the quality of the content of comic books. I especially enjoyed the reviews of the post-war horror comics. Great. Priceless."
