Sight: 15 5/8 x 11 3/8 inches. Matts: 23 x 18 inches.
Condition: Bug damage to first one lower left. Other two in good condition. Matts with surface loss.
An American-Japanese non-objective painter, he was born in Hollywood, California on October 29, 1919, to a wealthy Japanese landlord and builder. He lived in Japan from the ages of six to nineteen. He returned to the United States and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946.
During the 50s, he studied under various artists active in the New York art scene, including Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Morrish Kanter, and Byron Browne in 1951. From 1951 to 1953 he studied under scholarship at the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in New York, and in 1953, under the Edward G. McDowell Traveling Fellowship, studied in Europe.
His work has been exhibited on Cape Cod, in New York City (at the Art Student's League in 1955), Paris, France, and elsewhere. He settled with his wife and sons in Provincetown, Massechusettes, until his passing in 1994.
