"MDCCCCVIII" [1908] is imprinted on the title page, published November, 1908 and Scribner's colophon on the copyright page; illustrated with full page color plates on glossy paper. Margaret Neilson Armstrong (1867-1944) was a 20th-century American designer, illustrator, and author. She is best known for her book covers in the Art Nouveau style. She also wrote and illustrated the first comprehensive guide to wildflowers of the American west, Field Book of Western Wild Flowers (1915). In later life she wrote mystery novels and biographies.

Hard boards, dark blue cloth front board and spine decorated in gold, orange and green designed by Margaret Armstrong [a little wear]; 5” x 7.3/4”; frontispiece with tissue guard, two-color title page; xii + 325 pages on high quality genuine laid paper, gilt upper edge, untrimmed on the bottom; 11 color plates on glossy paper, very good condition.
